Xxxtentacion graveyard4/30/2023 ![]() ![]() It also doesn’t sit right with me that Wayne has now had three posthumous collaborations with XXXTentacion, even after admitting he had no idea who the latter was until after his passing. It’s also got Adam Levine on it, which made it incredibly hard to finish the song even once. It has the most boring and repetitive guitar-trap beat imaginable. Trust Nobody is the worst offender of this. Every track just blends together as one big blur that just sounds mediocre. Wayne’s just talking about nothing and doesn’t even seem like he’s enjoying himself. A majority of the tracks just feels really devoid of effort. The production on this album sounds like Wayne went to YouTube, typed “Lil Wayne Type Beat”, and just used the most generic sounding ones he could find. Lil Wayne is by all definitions talented, but this album just does not cut it. The thing that surprises me the most is just how bad this album is. Funeral is also a nice opening track for the album, as if it’s promising an incredible album is coming. Wayne’s cadence on Mahogany is arguably one of the best showcases for his talent. The first three tracks, Funeral, Mahogany, and Mama Mia are all really solid songs, which just makes me feel like the album lied to me because it just goes down from there. There are things about Funeral that I liked, it’s just not nearly as many as my gripes with it. Genasis, and the late XXXTentacion, and none of these features sound good. The remaining features are Takeoff, The Dream, Lil Twist, O.T. I also don’t understand rappers’ obsession with adding a trash Adam Levine verse to their song. Despite having bigger names like Lil Baby, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz on the album, they provided almost nothing of quality to the songs. Unfortunately that’s where my next issue comes from, the features. I’ve already voiced my issues with longer albums before, but if there are features to help the flow of the album then I can excuse it. Firstly, the length of the project is an hour and sixteen minutes over twenty-four tracks. I enjoyed both of the albums, but I never have any want to go back to them and replay any tracks.īefore starting Funeral, I already had many concerns. ![]() I’ve only listened to two projects Wayne has released in full, those being Tha Carter III and Tha Carter V. When Wayne announced that Funeral would finally be released, it piqued my interested. I had never personally been a huge fan of him when I was younger, but I still love blasting Lolipop and 6 Foot 7 Foot when I get the chance. Whether you’re a fan of Lil Wayne or not, you can’t deny that he was a pioneer of the mid 2000s rap scene. Neat!įirst Eminem and now Lil Wayne, it’s been an oddly nostalgic start to 2020. If you read this upside down, it says Lil Wanye. ![]()
